Our statement of faith
While we come from a diversity of denominational backgrounds, together with the historic church, the Nicene and Apostle's Creeds express our fundamental agreement in matters of faith. For those like us who enjoy all the theological details, we have expressed our official Statement of Faith below:
We believe in the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments as originating from God and as the supreme and final authority in faith and life. They are uniquely, verbally, and fully inspired by the Holy Spirit and were written by His prophets and apostles, without error in the original manuscripts. Taken in context, the Bible always presents the truth concerning anything that it addresses. The Holy Bible clearly instructs humanity in matters concerning salvation, and is sufficient and supremely authoritative, revealing what God requires of all people to live a life pleasing before God.
We believe that there is only one true God, eternally existing, of one substance and power, in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit. This same God is the uncreated creator of everything that is seen and unseen, physical and spiritual. He is in no way dependent upon anything outside of Himself, because everything outside of Himself has been created by Him, including space and time. God is holy and perfect in all of His attributes. His knowledge of Himself and of His creation is perfect; and His creation in no way contributes to His eternal perfection. His Word (Christ and the Holy Scriptures) declares that He is all-powerful, all knowing, omnipresent, only good, just, loving, abundantly merciful, slow to anger, and in Him there is no darkness at all.
We believe that Jesus Christ was begotten by the Father through the Holy Spirit and was born of the Virgin Mary; thereby forever joining the Divine nature and human nature in one person, Jesus Christ, who is true God and true man. God has ordained that the only mediator between God and mankind, the only person by which humanity can be made right before God, is the only Son of God, Jesus Christ.
We believe that man was created, male and female, in the image of God so that they would glorify God and enjoy His fellowship. Man sinned and thereby marred the stamp of God’s image upon them, and in so doing, incurred not only physical death, but also spiritual death, which is separation from God. We believe that the Bible (and therefore God) teaches that because of Adam’s sin, all human beings are born in Original Sin (in a state of fleshly nature that prefers or wills to sin) and are therefore deserving of God’s wrath. Therefore, every person’s sinful nature makes it impossible to live a life that is pleasing to God, and impossible to restore a good relationship with God on his or her own merit without Christ’s atonement.
We believe that the sinless Lord Jesus Christ died as a one time satisfactory payment for our sins according to the Scriptures. His death was a representative and substitutionary sacrifice. We believe that all who repent of their rebellion against God, and by faith trust in Him, are justified by God because of Christ’s physical death and resurrection.
We believe in the physical resurrection of the crucified body of our Lord, in His bodily ascension into heaven, in His present life there for us as High Priest and Advocate.
We believe in that “blessed hope,” the personal and physical return of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
We believe that all who receive by faith the Lord Jesus Christ are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.
We believe in the bodily resurrection of the dead (the just and the unjust), and the final judgment. Depending on their response to Christ in this life, people will either live with Him forever as His blessed children in a gloriously perfect new heaven and new earth, or will be eternally punished consciously for their sin and banished from His benevolent presence.
